100 women from Sonagachi, one of Kolkata’s most disadvantaged communities, were given free AIDS testing as part of a humanitarian effort by Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences & Hospital in honor of World AIDS Day. The program sought to increase awareness, encourage early discovery, and offer critical treatment and direction in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Under the esteemed direction of Mr. Krishna Kumar Gupta, Chairman of the Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences & Hospital, the event aimed to dispel the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS while arming attendees with vital information and tools. In addition to testing, the hospital’s committed medical staff held educational workshops and counseling sessions, fostering a secure and encouraging atmosphere to assist participants in realizing the importance of early detection and implementing safer behaviors.

Speaking about the project, Shri Krishna Kumar Gupta said “We offered support to a population that is frequently disregarded on this World AIDS Day. We wanted to raise awareness and promote timely testing, which is essential for managing and stopping the spread of HIV, by interacting with the women of Sonagachi. Our hospital aspires to a society where everyone can access healthcare without discrimination or shame. We can overcome the obstacles posed by HIV/AIDS if we work together, show empathy, and take prompt action”.
