After suffering from severe chest pain and excessive perspiration for more than three hours, a 73-year-old woman with a history of diabetes and hypertension was sent to Narayana Health, RN Tagore Hospital, Mukundapur. Immediate life-saving actions were necessary after an ECG showed anomalies upon arrival, indicating a major heart attack with extremely low blood pressure. An experienced team under the direction of Dr. Debdatta Majumdar, Consultant-Cardiology (Adult) Narayana Health, RN Tagore Hospital, sprang into action with the hospital’s cutting-edge emergency response skills. The patient received prompt, life-saving care.

An echocardiography revealed that the heart’s pumping capacity had dropped to 30%, far less than the typical range of 60–65%, according to Dr. Debdatta Majumdar.

“We scheduled an emergency angioplasty right away. However, the patient suffered a sudden heart arrest as preparations were being made. To restore her heart rhythm, the hospital’s emergency team promptly started Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) procedures and gave her a life-saving shock” added Dr. Majumdar.

Before the patient was moved to the catheterization lab, the medical staff at RN Tagore Hospital made the crucial choice to put her on an Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), which helped stabilize her condition. Ten minutes later, an angiography showed that the heart’s major artery (LAD) was completely blocked. The patient’s condition significantly improved when the doctors successfully opened the clogged artery with an angioplasty in less than 30 minutes.

The significance of prompt decision-making and cooperation between the hospital’s emergency and cardiac care teams was demonstrated by these life-saving efforts.

Her blood pressure stabilized after the procedure, and she was sent to the Critical Care Unit (CCU), where she kept improving. The next day, the IABP support was taken off, and she was released in a stable state following three days in the critical care unit and two more days in the hospital ward.

This positive result highlights Narayana Health’s dedication to offering top-notch cardiac care and highlights the critical role that cutting-edge technology and skilled medical teams play in treating challenging cardiac problems.

This positive result demonstrates the value of our cardiac and emergency care services.
