The Cake Mixing Ceremony is more than just a culinary custom; it is a symbol of happiness, community, and the coziness of Christmas. The custom turns into a delightful symphony of love and joyous anticipation with each combination of nuts and a dash of alcoholic beverages. In keeping with this sense of community, Ibiza The Fern Resort & Spa in Kolkata held a lavish cake-mixing ceremony on its lush lawn while taking in the fall’s golden rays.

Gracing the occasion were actress Alivia Sarkar, acclaimed painter Eleena Banik, Mr. Subhadip Basu, Corporate General Manager – Hospitality & Mall (Merlin Group), and Mr. Zaffar Rahman, EAM (F&B), Ibiza The Fern Resort & Spa, Kolkata.

Visitors, cooks, resort employees, and locals all wore Santa hats, aprons, and gloves to partake in the robust mingling of dry fruits, nuts, raisins, and liquors.

“A beloved custom that symbolizes the joyous approach of Christmas is the Cake Mixing Ceremony. It is much more than just a culinary pastime; it represents joy, community, and solidarity. It establishes the mood for the holiday season by fusing creativity, tradition, and a mutual appreciation of the joyous occasion. In Ibiza, we commemorate this custom annually with joy and celebration, accompanied by our visitors, coworkers, and special guests. Actress Alivia Sarkar and artist Eleena Banik are honored to be attending this year,” said Mr. Subhadip Basu, Corporate General Manager – Hospitality & Mall (Merlin Group).

Actress Alivia Sarkar said “Since I was a young child, cake has been my favorite food, and Christmas always makes me excited about this delectable custom. I had a great time mixing cakes in Ibiza. Ibiza is one of my favorite destinations, therefore I go there frequently since it feels like a second home to me”.

Guests and celebrities were given Santa caps, aprons, and gloves before the ceremony started. The chefs and staff led the group as they mixed the components in a big container, beginning with nuts and fruits and ending with copious amounts of alcohol. Until the mixture was completely wet, it was tossed and rotated. Live musical performances and Christmas décor added to the festive mood, fostering a happy sense of community.

The enormous work of combining 16 liters of wine, whiskey, brandy, vodka, and rum with 25 kg of various fruits was the event’s high point. After 28 days of steeping, the ingredients will be made into unique Christmas cakes, puddings, and Dundee cakes.

A lavish feast prepared by the resort’s culinary experts marked the end of the celebration, providing guests with the ideal balance of joyous atmosphere and mouthwatering flavors.
