First UG Program In VLSI & Semiconductor Engineering By SNU
Sister Nivedita University (SNU) has introduced a first-of-its-kind undergraduate degree in VLSI and Semiconductor Engineering, marking a significant advancement in India’s position in the worldwide semiconductor sector. The revelation was made during the historic “Chip to Career” seminar, which brought together prominent academics, business executives, and aspiring engineers to discuss the revolutionary possibilities of semiconductor and VLSI technologies.
The event was graced by eminent dignitaries like Shri Babul Supriyo, Hon’ble Minister, Information Technology and Electronics, Government of West Bengal, Prof. Kaushik Roy, Edward G. Tiedemann, Jr., Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Head, Nanoelectronics Research Lab, Purdue University, Prof. Amlan Chakrabarti, Prof. Amlan Chakrabarti, Professor & Director, A K Choudhury School of Information and Technology, University of Calcutta, Dr Rob Roy, EVP and GM of Innovation hub, TEOCO, Mr Satyam Roy Chowdhury, Chancellor, SNU, Dr. Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, Vice-Chancellor, SNU and Dr. Sanku Bose, Group CEO and Dean of Engineering, SNU.
The B. Tech Program in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) and Semiconductor Engineering at SNU is made to satisfy the growing need for qualified workers in the semiconductor sector. The program combines theoretical underpinnings with practical instruction in state-of-the-art semiconductor design, fabrication, and testing technologies. It was created in conjunction with industry specialists. To explore the revolutionary possibilities of VLSI and semiconductor technologies, industry executives, academic specialists, and aspiring engineers convened at the Chip to Career seminar. Leading semiconductor company representatives discussed industry trends, technology developments, and new career opportunities. They emphasized the importance of industry-academia cooperation in promoting innovation and closing the skills gap in this high-tech field.
The recently established VLSI and Semiconductor Engineering program at Sister Nivedita University features a rigorous and relevant curriculum that was carefully created in collaboration with industry professionals. Access to cutting-edge labs and equipment and chances for internships and placements with leading semiconductor companies will provide students with practical experience. The curriculum also emphasizes cutting-edge topics including IoT applications, AI-driven chip design, and environmentally friendly semiconductor manufacturing techniques. It is anticipated that this program will draw talented individuals from all over India, giving them the know-how to make a substantial contribution to economic development and technical innovation. It will also produce engineers who can propel the country’s aspirations in the international semiconductor sector.
An insightful panel discussion featuring Prof. Kaushik Roy, Dr. Rob Roy, and Dr. Sanku Bose, Group CEO and Dean of Engineering at SNU, threw light on new perspectives on the subject. The session was expertly moderated by Mr. Biplab Ganguli, EVP of Corporate Affairs at Techno India Group.
Smarter minds are just as important to the future of technology as smarter technologies. It is an honor to be a part of this revolutionary journey, as institutions such as Sister Nivedita University are forming the architects of tomorrow’s ideas.
