Woodlands Hospital Now Has Sensor-Based SmartReBins On Its Grounds

Why is there a huge PET bottle on a hospital’s premises?
On World Environment Day, Woodlands Hospital proudly launched an innovative environmental sustainability initiative in collaboration with Magpet Polymers Pvt Ltd and the CII West Bengal State Council. An important step towards establishing plastic-neutral areas in healthcare facilities in Kolkata has been taken with the installation of the sophisticated, sensor-based SmartReBins on the hospital grounds.
As PET bottle-shaped recycling bins, these SmartReBins have advanced sensors and geo-tagging that alert for prompt waste collection when they are full. Magpet Polymers then turns collected plastic bottles into premium recycled materials, lowering landfill waste and fostering a circular economy.
The initiative received active support from dignitaries, including Mr. Debashis Dutta, Chairman of the CII West Bengal State Council. “We at CII think that sustainability starts with awareness and continues with decisive action. To encourage society and industry stakeholders to adopt realistic, environmentally friendly practices, this World Environment Day initiative is essential,” said Mr. Dutta
Mr. Rupak Barua, MD & CEO of Woodlands Hospital and Vice Chairman of the CII West Bengal State Council, reiterated Woodlands’ commitment and said, “Sustainability is not just an event but a continuous journey. The purpose of today’s launch is to encourage and provide our community with the tools necessary to consistently engage in environmentally conscious behaviour on a personal and professional level”.
Woodlands Hospital is still dedicated to being a good steward of the environment, promoting small but significant steps to create a sustainable future for our planet and community.
