On World Music Day this year at G.D. Birla Sabhaghar, the Kolkata Centre for Creativity will present “Jo Dooba So Paar” – A Mystical Musical Journey, an enthralling theatrical production that invites viewers to explore the timeless spiritual universe of Sufi mysticism through the prism of music and poetry.

This immersive experience, which has its roots in the divine legacy of the renowned poet and mystic Hazrat Ameer Khusrau, skilfully blends poetic expressions of divine love, longing, and surrender with heart-stirring melodies and evocative storytelling. The performance becomes a spiritual offering that aims to uplift the spirit and awaken the heart, transcending the confines of the stage.

Manav Kaul’s presentation of Jo Dooba So Paar illuminates the human side of Sufi poet Ameer Khusrau, highlighting his close and spiritual relationship with his guru Nizamuddin Auliya and how their sacred bond led to the arrival of Qawwali. With live Qawwali singing and a wealth of fascinating stories and anecdotes interwoven in a traditional Daastaan, the production provides a deep understanding of the core of Sufism and emphasises the universally applicable lesson of love for all people.

Mumbai-based Ajitesh Gupta, a seasoned theatre actor and singer with classical training, directs the show with his commanding presence and voice. With more than ten years of theatre experience, Ajitesh has collaborated with some of India’s most well-known directors, such as Manav Kaul, Atul Kumar, and Gulzar Sahab. He infuses his performances with a unique level of artistic and cultural awareness.

More than just a performance, “Jo Dooba So Paar” is an invitation to surrender, lose oneself in the cosmic rhythm, and commune with the divine via the sublime beauty of Khusrau’s poetry. This evening promises to be both artistically and spiritually enlightening, so don’t miss this rare fusion of music, mysticism, and theatre.
