The upcoming Bengali film Zariyaa (The Song Of The City) was announced recently. The film is of the romantic drama genre.

Zariyaa is a heartfelt tribute to Kolkata, a city rich in magic, music, and memories. The story revolves around Arjun, a charismatic radio RJ and talented guitarist whose late-night show Zariyaa combines stories, melodies, and genuine human connections against the lively backdrop of its streets and cafés. He meets Tulika, an independent filmmaker who uses her camera to tell Kolkata’s untold stories. She is mesmerized by Arjun’s music, which reflects the essence of the city, when she sees him perform at a neighborhood café. Arjun and Tulika travel together on a path of self-discovery, love, and art as their worlds merge. They discover not only one another but also Kolkata’s soulful rhythm via music and cinema. Zariyaa is a touching ode to the transformational potential of art and a celebration of creativity, community, and the city that never sleeps.

The film is written and directed by Suman Maitra.

The cast of the film consists of Rajeshwar, Amrita Chattopadhyay, and Tapati Munshi.

Amrita said, “The city of Kolkata plays a significant part in this lovely love tale. A musician and an independent documentary filmmaker fall in love; the story has a slight twist that is best seen. The narrative explores how music, coffee, and adda can unite people, heal hearts, and foster connections. I’ve been chatting with Sumanda about a few projects for a while, but we were never able to work things out. This time, however, it worked out, and it was a terrific experience. Sumanda has a lot of patience and is a very well-organized director! Working was a pleasure”.

She added, “It’s always a pleasure working with Subho, a longtime friend and industry associate. A very well-organized and calm individual as well. This group was in unison. The stylist, the DOP, and every other department. While filming, we relished the aspects of Kolkata that contribute to the city’s identity. Tuli, also known as Tulika, is a free spirit who enjoys her job, the city, coffee, music, and FM channel shows. She enjoys being alone, loves her documentary projects, and opens up to people when she connects. and has a strong relationship with her Dida”.

The music of the film has been composed by Mouli Chakraborty. Ranajoy Bhattacharjee and others have lent their voices to the songs in the film.
