A Mitral Valve Replacement On A Rare Dextrocardia Patient

Although the precise number of persons who have mitral valve replacement surgery in India is unknown, at least one hospital performs more than 1,000 of these procedures annually, indicating a substantial operation volume.
Desun Hospital reports that a 46-year-old male patient from Jharkhand who had dextrocardia—an uncommon disease in which the heart is positioned on the right side of the chest rather than the left—had successful Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR) surgery.
Under the direction of Dr. Soumyajit Ghosh, Senior Consultant CTVS Surgeon, a talented group of cardiac surgeons and anesthetists executed the procedure, accomplishing the uncommon accomplishment. “We are dedicated to providing each patient with cutting-edge, compassionate care. It is challenging to do such an operation on a patient with dextrocardia since it defies our clinical intuition. It has been a novel experience because we don’t often encounter scenarios like this,” said the doctor.
“The role of proper anesthesia is crucial in such cases though anesthesia management is crucial for any surgery. It is much more crucial in this one because the patient has dextrocardia,” said Senior Cardiac Anaesthetist Dr. Subhendu Sarkar.
Investigations showed that Mr. Vikash Paswan, the patient, had significant mitral valve disease and experienced acute shortness of breath upon exertion. On September 9, he was brought to Desun Hospital, and on September 18, he was released following a period of recuperation following surgery.
With the assistance of a specialized cardiac surgery unit, specialized steel modular operating rooms, and state-of-the-art post-operative care facilities, a highly skilled team of cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons and anesthetists oversee the Mitral Valve Replacement procedure at Desun Hospital. This accomplishment highlights Desun Hospital’s commitment to improving treatment for uncommon and challenging heart disorders.
