In India, breast cancer still accounts for around 30% of all female cancers, making it the most frequent cancer among women. An estimated 2.3 lakh women nationwide—including over 15,000 in West Bengal—were suspected of receiving a new diagnosis in 2025 alone. Sadly, over half of these instances manifest at an advanced stage, and Indian women are diagnosed about ten years earlier than their Western counterparts, frequently in their prime working and family years.

In light of these facts, Desun Hospital opened a dedicated breast cancer clinic with an emphasis on breast conservation surgery (BCS), a cutting-edge method of treating cancer while maintaining women’s self-esteem and dignity. The clinic will function on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

“With targeted therapies, precision chemotherapy, and post-operative radiotherapy, breast conservation has become a safe and effective choice for many women. Every patient is given a customized strategy that is appropriate for her stage and condition, thanks to our multidisciplinary tumor board,” said Dr. Sreya Mallik, Consultant Medical Oncologist at Desun Hospital.

“At Desun, we integrate advanced imaging and surgical planning to ensure oncological safety while maintaining the breast’s natural contour. By providing them with therapeutic alternatives that support their health and self-esteem, we hope to empower women,” said Dr. Jyoti Gupta, Consultant Onco-Surgeon & Breast Surgery Specialist.

“The survival chances of breast conservation surgery plus radiation therapy for early-stage breast cancer are comparable to those of mastectomy. The goal is to assist women in regaining their normalcy and body confidence in addition to curing cancer,” said Dr. Aman Prakash, a consultant onco-surgeon.

Ms. Anushila Dutta, a consultant psychologist at Desun Hospital, addressed the psychological elements of breast cancer patients, emphasizing that emotional recovery is as vital as physical healing. Patients who receive counseling are better able to manage their anxiety, re-establish their sense of self, and accept life after cancer.

Their conviction that every woman deserves not only survival but also dignity and optimism is reflected in Desun’s new Breast Cancer Clinic.
