On February 1, 2026, the Child in Need Institute (CINI), one of the top NGOs in India, commemorated its 52nd Foundation Day. Four teenage boys and girls from four Indian states attended CINI’s Foundation Day as key guests at the site of Cyril Academy, a distinctive CINI-run school tucked away in nature on the southern outskirts of Kolkata.

Some of the eminent dignitaries gracing the event were Shri Dilip Mandal, Minister of State for the Transport Department of the West Bengal Government; Smt. Tulika Bose, Chairperson of the West Bengal State Child Protection Commission, and Advisor Smt. Ananya Chakraborty Chatterjee, and others.

Over the course of 52 years, CINI has worked with around one crore people in eight states to address issues related to maternal, child, and adolescent health, nutrition, education, protection, and the environment. On this day, CINI’s CEO, Dr. Indrani Bhattacharya, launched the organization’s brand-new Shubhayu program, which focuses on preventive healthcare.

“This initiative will work in the coming days with the health and well-being of people of all ages from various sections of society in an era of rising non-communicable diseases. All attendees were also scheduled to undergo screening for blood pressure, blood sugar, and other basic testing on this day,” said Ms Bhattacharya.

The state minister discussed the breadth of CINI’s activity and his longstanding affiliation with the organization.

CINI recognized a number of institutions and people for their societal contributions. These included BDO Shri Irfan Mollah Hosain from Nagarakata Block, Jalpaiguri District, for providing medical care to isolated hilly areas during the North Bengal floods; Shri Satyabrata Shamal, founder of the Sattvik Soul Foundation, also known as Odisha’s Environment Man; Dumdum Municipality for important work with CESC and CINI on floral waste management; Arogya World for its exceptional nationwide contribution to preventing childhood diabetes; Smt. Jyotsna Halder, Pradhan of Maipith Gram Panchayat in the Sundarbans, who received a national award for his efforts to prevent child drowning, and 15 “Kavach-Mothers” for their cooperation in CINI’s drowning initiative.

Dr. Samir Chaudhuri, the founder secretary of CINI, presented the annual report for 2024–2025 on this important day, outlining the organization’s future with and for the people.
