A one-month-old male infant diagnosed with Left Pelvi-Ureteric Junction Obstruction (PUJO) associated with hydronephrosis (HDN) and reduced kidney function underwent a successful highly specialized robotic-assisted pyeloplasty by Yashoda Hospitals’ Department of Urology.

The baby was admitted with kidney swelling brought on by a blockage at the kidney-ureter junction, which compromised renal function and interfered with normal urine drainage. On May 7, 2026, the skilled urology team performed a robotic left pyeloplasty under general anesthesia following a thorough evaluation and pre-operative assessment.

The narrowed, obstructed segment was removed during the minimally invasive robotic procedure, and the urinary drainage pathway was rebuilt using precise anastomosis over a DJ stent. The child recovered well after the procedure, which was successfully finished without any issues.

Dr. Mallikarjuna Reddy N, a Senior Consultant in Urology & Robotic Surgery and the Clinical Director at Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, said, “One of the most frequent causes of urinary obstruction in infants is congenital PUJO, which can progressively impair kidney function if treatment is not received. In order to maintain kidney function and guarantee healthy growth in such infants, early diagnosis and prompt intervention are essential. After six weeks, the baby was discharged in good condition with follow-up instructions for stent removal because he had remained stable during the hospital stay.
