Abhinav Bindra Replaces Mary Pierce As Event Ambassador Of The Tata Steel Kolkata 25K
Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Olympic gold medallist’s presence will provide a boost to participants at the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K 2022 on Sunday, December 18.
Bindra was named the Event Ambassador for the seventh edition of the prestigious World Athletics Elite Label Road Race on Wednesday by the race’s organizer, Procam International. Mary Pierce, a former grand slam tennis winner, is replaced by the shooter because she is indisposed.
Then 25 years old, Bindra won the gold medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Games with an almost flawless 10.8 on his final shot. It was the pinnacle of a distinguished athletic career that saw him win a gold medal at the World Championship and other medals at the Asian and Commonwealth Games.
The widely acclaimed Bindra, an entrepreneur, and philanthropist now, constantly emphasizes that success is not determined by one day but rather by the effort made every day to make the journey worthwhile. Amateur runners who train all year in anticipation of eastern India’s largest running festival share this sentiment.
On-the-spot registrations will be available for the 25K, Ananda Run (4.5K), and Champions with Disability during the Mirchi Get Active Expo at Khudiram Anushilan Kendra, Sahid Khudiram Bose Rd, BBD Bagh (next to Netaji Subhash Chandra Stadium).
Due to security concerns related to the inauguration of the International Film Festival India at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on Thursday, the Kolkata Police has directed that the Mirchi Get Active Expo to be open only on Friday, 16th December (9:00 am to 9:00 pm) and Saturday, 17th December (9:00 am to 7:00 pm).
The race will be telecast live by Sony Ten 1, Sony Ten 1 HD, and Sony Liv on December 18 from 6:00 am to 10:00 am.
