In honor of Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen’s film Saptapadi, the play written by renowned playwright Ujjwal Chattopadhyay pays homage to the famous actor on the anniversary of his birth. Tricolour Productions Pvt. Ltd. is the producer of this drama.
Krishnendu Mukherjee, a young medical college student, falls in love with Rina Brown, an attractive Anglo Indian Christian woman who is also a medical aspirant, during the Second World War. After seeing a play on Othello, they grew close, but their religious differences and Krishnendu’s father’s disapproval prevented them from getting married.
They cross paths again in a military hospital years later due to fate. The playwright adapted works such as Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Chekhov’s Three Sisters, and Tagore’s Notir Puja and Bidushak, among others, to create this outstanding play, which revisits the timeless emotion of the 1961 romantic film.

The artists who will be seen in the different roles are:
Paayel Sarkar as Rina Brown, Dolon Roy as Kunti, Nodi Roy as Poly Brown, Arpita Kazi as Bimla, Ankan Dhar as John Cleton, Dulal Lahri as Shyamsundar, Saikat Ganguly as Joseph Lal, and many others.
Speaking about her first appearance in the theatre, actress Paayel Sarkar said, “This is a new experience for me. Working in films and working on the stage is completely different. When you work in a play, you have to be always prepared. It also takes a lot of guts, and I had to ensure that I did not forget any lines. There is no retake here. I am amazed that I could remember so many lines. This is a well-known character, and I am portraying it as per the director’s instructions”.
The play will be staged on 13th April at the Academy of Fine Arts at 4 pm and 7 pm.
