Amritangshu Chakravarty’s Debut Feature Film Choroibeti-A Journey; Barun Chanda In Pivotal Role In Film
Amritangshu Chakravarty is a PhD student in Biochemistry at the University of Kansas in USA. He is also a certified fitness professional from USA, and he works in collaboration with doctors to reduce the problems of obesity, metabolic syndrome, abnormal lipid profile, diabetes, fatty liver, hypothyroidism and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome through a combination of diet and exercise his personal website (www.amritangshu.com) . Amritangshu has a passion for filmmaking, and started making short films in 2014. Some of his short films which has been screened at different festivals and also received awards include Grey, Happiness..The Awakening, Hothat Dekha…The Sudden Meet, Gondho” (“The Aroma”) and many others.
After shooting the short films, he ventured into the world of feature film making with his debut feature film Choroibeti- A Journey. One of the unique facts about the film is that it has been shot with two smartphones and 3 LED lights.
The story of the film revolves with the struggles in the journey of a young man Subhamoy. He hails from a Bengali middle-class background and wants to become an independent filmmaker. The film has Barun Chanda in an important role along with personalities like Samir Biswas, Madhuchhanda Ghosh and Susmita Chakraborty. The protagonist’s roles have been taken care of by newcomers Tathagata Mukherjee, Suchanda Banerjee and Sreyasi Chakraborty with Amritangshu himself making his acting debut in this film.
The film is 1 hour 45 minutes in duration.
The film is now in post-production with Amritangshu himself taking care of the editing.
Megh Banerjee (who has composed the background score for films like Zombiesthaan and Chhobiyal) has composed the background score and Shrayee Paul (a former contestant in SareGaMaPa) took care of the three songs relevant to the film.
Aritra Dutta Banik is the colorist. The first look of the film has been released on the Facebook and Instagram handles of Amritangshu Chakravarty Production (ACP) on January 3, 2020.
The film is in post-production and will be completed in February, 2020. The production team is looking for co-production who can possibly take care of distribution and release. They also plan to release it online later. The search for an online platform will start soon. Amritangshu has self-financed the film by saving the money from his PhD scholarship and is a completely independent venture from his production house, Amritangshu Chakravarty Production (ACP).
The promotion and publicity of this film has also been done without the involvement of any PR agency, using digital media and social media. Amritangshu believes that this way involves a more present day real-world scenario for people owning an independent film production business.
