Holi-2025

The use of chemical and synthetic colors during Holi can severely damage the skin, hair, and eyes. Renowned dermatologist Dr. Satarupa Mondal shared essential skincare tips ahead of the festival at a discussion in Kolkata.

She highlighted that colors often contain harmful compounds like lead oxide, copper sulfate, and mercury, which can cause significant damage. Therefore, it is crucial to take necessary precautions while playing with colors.

Pre-Holi Skincare Routine:

Avoid facial treatments like facials or laser procedures at least 4-5 days before Holi.

Apply proper moisturizing lotion or cream an hour before playing to minimize color penetration and make it easier to wash off.

Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 on the exposed part of the skin (face, neck, arms, forearms, hands, and feet) at least 30 minutes before stepping out in the sun.

Coconut oil can be a great natural alternative to moisturizers.

Hair Protection:

Apply coconut oil from root to tip to create a protective layer.

Tying your hair in a braid or bun can minimize chemical exposure and reduce hair tangling and breakage when washing off the colors.

Eye Protection:

Wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from harmful chemicals and sun rays

Hydration:

Drink plenty of water before and after playing to prevent dehydration.

Post-Holi Care:

Rinse off the colors as soon as possible with lukewarm water.

Avoid harsh soaps; use a mild shampoo for hair and a gentle body wash for skin.

Do not scrub your skin harshly with loofahs or rough towels.

After cleansing, apply moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated.

If any skin irritation, redness, or rashes appear, avoid self-treatment and consult a dermatologist immediately.
