According to Shubhanjan Das, Secretary of West Bengal’s Department of Information Technology and Electronics, the state government will shortly forward a proposal that would permit businesses to use its data centers to create artificial intelligence models.

The Siliguri government data center has a very high computational capacity. Additionally, STPI is developing its own data center, which will open for business this year.

At the Assocham-organized 10th TechMeet, Das said, “We are open to ideas where maybe the private players, the private companies, if you want to use our data center for building AI models or AI training, you will be most welcome in the near future”.

Situated on over 250 acres of land, Bengal’s Silicon Valley is anticipated to create jobs for nearly 7,500 people and attract approximately Rs 30,000 crores in investment. He added that work was in full swing and that up to 41 companies had already taken land there. Additionally, the Secretary offered assistance to improve the State’s ease of doing business.

“As of right now, West Bengal ranks sixth in India with 11 private data centers, and India ranks third in Asia in terms of the number of data centers,” he noted.

The IT Secretary handed the STPI Export Excellence Awards to businesses around Bengal on this occasion. Mr. Nayak congratulated the winners.

Bhaarat Dave, Acting Deputy High Commissioner, British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, claims that the West Bengal government’s next GCC policy is to establish the state as a technological powerhouse of the future.

According to Dave, the UK wants to collaborate with India in three main areas: data protection and secure digital futures; skills and future workforce; and innovation and new technology.

Sushil Mohta, Chairman of the World Trade Center in Salt Lake, claims that Bengal’s robust academic institutions, extensive manpower pool, and developing infrastructure are making it a desirable location for GCCs.
