On July 2, 2025, the Association of Laboratory Medicine (ALM), the field’s newest association, was established, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the history of laboratory medicine. It is the only laboratory medicine association other than the American Association of Laboratory Medicine (AALM). With much fanfare, the organization was formally launched at the Press Club in Kolkata.

Dr. Tamal Kanti Ghosh ( President), Dr. Ashvini Sengupta ( GS), Dr. Debasish Banerjee ( Chief Patron), Dr. Pradip Mitra ( Chief Patron), Dr. SM Nadeem, Dr. Sankar Sengupta, and Dr. Susruta Sen, along with the other renowned pathologists, graced the event.

The slogan “Better health for Laboratory Medicine” is used in this. To attain the accuracy and speed of medical diagnosis, this new association will serve as a collaborative forum for doctor coordination and discussion of the most recent technical advancements in these five fields. People frequently misunderstand the results of medical tests. It is believed that these issues are lessened by the doctors’ and clinics’ cooperation.

Developing and nurturing millions of knowledge sharing, inter-disciplinary hand-holding, and thought and expertise exchange in a continuum is the main focus and goal of ALM.

In addition to having a clear mandate to create opportunities and prospects for the younger brigade and newly joined professionals in a manner appropriate to their talent and acumen, the Association pledges to be deeply indoctrinated in equal representation and authority of all its disciplines.

By embracing all five of its sibling disciplines and maintaining a positive working relationship with the clinic, ALM aims to promote academic discussions and events of the highest possible caliber and quality.

The association is committed to ensuring a healthy, upbeat outreach to all of its members and is adamant about its policy of encouraging constructive rather than competitive exchanges.

In terms of membership, ALM has already surpassed the century mark and is still in a strong position as a well-rounded family organization with the goal of raising the bar for laboratory medicine in the years to come.
