Pallabi (Srijla Guha), a lonely college student whose desire for love turns into an obsession with her professor Arindam (Suhotra Mukhopadhyay), is at the heart of this sinister and perverse story. Despite being loyal to his wife Mithila (played by Manali Manisha Dey), Arindam becomes entangled in Pallabi’s dangerously strong feelings. The series also features important roles from Suprobhat Das, Durbar Sharma, Moyna Mukherjee, Joydeep Mukherjee, and Silajit Majumder, all of whom heighten the emotional turmoil that develops.

Hoichoi held an exclusive tête-à-tête with the Batashey Gungun cast and crew to commemorate the incredible trailer, providing a preview of the series’ world. The event, which was organized as a press conference for the media, included open discussions with actors Suhotra Mukhopadhyay, Srijla Guha, Manali Manisha Dey, and Durbar Sharma as well as director Arijeet Toton Chakrabarty and creative director Aditi Roy. After the press saw the trailer, conversations centered on the show’s themes of love, obsession, and emotional unraveling gave viewers a close-up look at what makes this series such a daring and complex story.

Because of its layered performances, intense atmosphere, and the terrifying emotional spiral it teases, the trailer is sure to draw attention.

“This is a story about what happens when the need to be loved becomes destructive”, said director Arijeet Toton Chakrabarty.

“Arindam is living in a loop of guilt—he is haunted by a single choice,” said Suhotra Mukhopadhyay.

“Pallabi doesn’t just fall in love—she clings to it like a lifeline. Pallabi found that Arindam made her life more tolerable. Obsession doesn’t feel wrong when someone helps you stay calm amid chaos. It has the feel of survival,” said Srijla Guha.

“Mithila was a very different character for me. Despite her modesty, she has a deep sense of everything, even things that are never spoken aloud,” said Manali Manisha Dey.

This emotional spiral is highlighted by a reworking of the popular song “Batashey Gungun”, which attracted audiences but is now devoid of nostalgia and incorporated into the soundtrack with a completely different tone. Years later, the ambiguous, atmospheric, and subtly disarming melody still haunts us like a ghost from the past. It intensifies the mystery, intensifies the desire, and changes our perception of the song so that it is no longer romantic but rather a melancholic echo.

On June 20, Batashey Gungun will debut exclusively on Hoichoi. The series invites viewers to witness a love story that defies boundaries—and sanity—as the platform’s most daring foray into the realm of obsession and dark romance to date. This dark, emotionally charged story is set to become the season’s most talked-about release thanks to its powerful trailer. Enter a world where love is terrifying rather than tender.
