2019 marks the completion of fifty years of the iconic film Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne directed by maestro Satyajit Ray.

The recently released Bengali film Konttho had a sequence wherein two kids decked up as Goopy and Bagha in the film for a play. Shiboprosad who plays the role of a Laryngeal cancer survivor can be seen enacting out the role of the Bhooter Raja in the scene.

Director Nandita Roy said that Satyajit Ray’s son came for a special screening and on watching the scene told that this was a perfect tribute to the iconic film.

It was revealed that Shiboprosad Mukherjee had to wait patiently for two hours to get in the look of the Bhooter Raja.

Designer Abhishek Roy meanwhile mentioned that he took care of the intricacies of the makeup as he did not want to meddle with it. “The character is iconic and when the people will see it, I knew there will be comparisons and criticisms. So I was very careful so that the look was as actual as the real one created by Ray” said the designer.

Broto who rose to fame with his portrayal in Haami mentioned that he had a great time shooting the sequence. He had also seen the original film quite a number of times.

Shiboprosad Mukherjee entered the press meet dressed up as Bhooter Raja. When questioned what are the three boons that he would like to give the people in recent times, he said “I will like to vanish the bad politicians, bring back Goopy Bagha and also keep Bhooter Raja in every country”.
