Jagyaseni Chatterjee, a disciple of Dr Lakshmi Ramaswamy organized a press conference in Kolkata to announce her plans of performing in Kolkata in the near future.

Daughter of veteran Bengali actress, Soma Dey, Jagyaseni was introduced to Bharat Natyam by her mother. “I liked Bharat Natyam very much and since I could not pursue it, I took her to the Bharat Natyam classes and got her enrolled there. I also took her to singing and drawing classes too. In the end, I left it to her to decide on what she wanted to pursue in the long run” said Soma Dey.

Jagyaseni is actively involved in the activities of Sri Mudhraalaya and also assists her Guru in teaching other students.

While speaking with the press, she said “I stayed at my Guru’s place so that I could learn it from her in a relaxed manner. I did not want to rush myself. I wanted to learn the nuances very nicely. So I wanted to learn it from a teacher who will not have a fixed timing. And I am glad I found Dr Lakshmi Ramaswamy”.

Jagyaseni also highlighted on the fact that one needs to go to Tamil Nadu and experience everything so that they can understand everything about the dance form. Learning it in Bengal was not enough for her as she found that her experiences were getting restricted.

The dancer will be performing in Kolkata soon.
