“Bhotbhoti Pays Importance To Neglected Areas Like Audio And Graphics”- Director Tathagata Mukherjee
Bhotbhoti is a young man who resides in a slum near Ganga ghat. He believes that there is a mermaid in the river. Things take a turn when he actually meets a mermaid named Ariel. What happens next? This is the story of director Tathagata Mukherjee’s modern-day fairytale love story Bhotbhoti.
The trailer of the film was released in the presence of the cast and crew of the film.
The film has been shot in 42 days in 85 locations. For the underwater scenes, the team has worked closely with the team who has been part of films like Malang, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, and others.
Speaking at the trailer launch, the director said “I think in Bengali films, graphics and audio is not given much attention. However, in my first feature film, both aspects have been given equal importance. Bhotbhoti is an audio-visual delight that the audience will experience. The film will start with an allegory and end in reality. Even in my next films, I will pay attention to these two departments”.
Bibriti will be seen in the role of the mermaid Ariel. For becoming a mermaid, there have been rigorous workshops. “We all have become the character that we portrayed onscreen,” said the actress.
The biggest challenge for the actress was learning how to swim and also talking in a composed manner. “Since I was the mermaid I had to learn how to swim. And secondly, I talk a lot in a haphazard manner. But Ariel talks in a calm and composed manner. These things I had to learn to become Ariel” added Bibriti.
Anirban Chakraborty will be seen as Bagha. “There is no dialogue for Bagha and his expressions are limited. This was a challenge for me. Bagha murdered but there is a reason for the murder. If someone believes in his cause, they will feel that he has done the right thing. Hence, it will be not right to call him a villain in the film”.
Anirban has also played the role of the narrator in the film.
Anirban has played two popular detective characters Jatayu and Eken Babu and now he has turned into a murderer in this film. The actor said, “This is the fun of acting. I can become someone that I am not. We were joking before that there will be a film in which I will commit the murders and I will be catching the murderers as well”.
Debleena apart from acting in the film has also handled the costumes of the actors along with Poulami. She played the role of Pakhi. “People might start believing in mermaids after watching the film. And those who believe in mermaids will be able to see a mermaid on the big screen. This will be a fascinating experience for everyone” said the actress.
Rishav plays the role of Bhotbhoti in the film. “I have been connected with the film since 2016 and this has been a long wait. Finally, the film is releasing and I am looking forward to the reactions of the audience. After watching the trailer, I wanted to go back and again shoot for the scenes. It was a great experience shooting the film”.
Dipankar Dey, Mamata Shankar, Rajatava Dutta, Tathagata Mukherjee and Debleena Dutt will be seen in important roles in the film.
The film is eyeing for release on 11th August.
