Bhutopurbo’s Trailer Out Now; Ode To Bengal’s Ghost Stories

At Corridor Bar & Kitchen, the eagerly awaited trailer for the Bengali horror anthology Bhutopurbo was formally unveiled. The film’s celebrated ensemble cast, which included Amrita Chattopadhyay, Sandipta Sen, Satyam Bhattacharya, Saptarshi Maulik, and Suhotra Mukhopadhyay, attended the intimate yet glitzy event to celebrate the start of a new era in Bengali horror cinema.

Three timeless horror classics—”Monihara” by Rabindranath Tagore, “Taranath Tantrik” by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay, and “Shikar” by Manoj Sen—are expertly blended in Bhutopurbo, a chilling anthology directed by Kakoli Ghosh and Avinab Mukherjee. The film, which is supported by Indoshree Production, attempts to bring back the spirit of classic Bengali ghost stories while utilizing a modern cinematic style.
“Bhutopurbo is a moving ode to Bengal’s rich literary heritage of ghost stories and goes beyond simply being a horror movie. Our goal in reimagining these timeless works for a modern audience is to arouse a nuanced blend of fascination, fear, and nostalgia. We are extremely fortunate to have worked with a cast that brought immense passion and depth to their roles,” said co-directors Kakoli Ghosh and Avinab Mukherjee.

In Monihara, Satyam Bhattacharya will be seen as Phanibhushan, while Amrita Chattopadhyay plays the beautiful Manimalika. Taranath Tantrik features Rupanjana Maitra as Matu Pagli, and Saptarshi Maulik will be seen as Taranath Tantrik. In the Shikar, Sandipta Sen portrays Tilottoma, while Suhotra Mukhopadhyay plays Purnendu.
Speaking at the event, Amrita Chattopadhyay said, “I love to believe in ghosts. The way I look in this film is not what the audience has seen me before. As an actress, getting such a role is amazing”.

Sandipta loved the trailer. She said that she was looking forward to seeing ghosts in real life. However, she had never had a ghostly experience before.
The film will release on the 27th of June.
