Bidrohi Nazrul Commemorated 100 Years Of Kazi Nazrul’s Arrival At Alipore Central Jail
Chhayanat (Kolkata) organized a special event titled ‘Bidrohi Nazrul’ at Alipore Museum to commemorate the occasion of 100 years of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s arrival at Alipore Central Jail.
Kazi Nazrul Islam received a prison sentence for his poetry “Anandomoyeer Agomane,” which was printed in the magazine “Dhumketu,” when Britain still controlled India. On January 17, 1923, Kazi Nazrul Islam entered Alipore Central Jail and stayed there for 87 days.
Chhayanat’s President, Ms. Somerita Mallik, conceptualized and publicized the event known as “Bidrohi Nazrul.” Chhayanat (Kolkata) was a special partner with Alipore Jail Museum in planning this event. Special guests were Sri. Debashis Sen, Managing Director of WBHIDCO, Smt. Alokananda Roy, a well-known dancer and social activist, Sri. Arindam Sarkar, Deputy Inspector General of Presidency Jail, and Sri. Animesh Bhattacharya, Curator of Alipore Museum at the occasion.
The event was filled with patriotic poems and songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Souvik Sasmal was the host for the evening.
