Book The Life And Times Of David Hare Out Now
The book The Life and Times of David Hare: First Secular Educationist of India by Sarojesh Mukerjee was launched at Oxford Bookstore.
Renowned novelist and poet Amit Chaudhuri, historian Dr Rosinka Chaudhuri, and author Sarojesh Mukerjee graced the occasion.
It delves into the lives and times of Scottish gentleman David Hare, who arrived in India at the beginning of the 1800s and changed the social structure of the nation. In addition to being an educationist, David Hare was a visionary who dared to question accepted wisdom and fan the torch of knowledge for everybody.
The intriguing story of Hare’s life was explored by author Sarojesh Mukerjee in a thought-provoking discussion with Dr. Rosinka Chaudhuri. Historical accounts were interwoven with Mukerjee’s perceptive narration, Dr. Chaudhuri’s knowledge of the period’s sociopolitical context, and Amit Chaudhuri’s viewpoint on the effects on the educational system.
The biography goes into further detail about Hare’s unrelenting commitment to using education to bridge gaps between communities, his sympathy for the impoverished, and his conviction in the transformational potential of education.
The biography is published by Niyogi Books.
In addition to being an engrossing book, “The Life and Times of David Hare” is expected to spark thought, and discussion, and possibly even serve as motivation for others to aspire to be like this remarkable man who dared to dream of an educated India.
