Brain Health For All Organized On World Brain Day At The CIP, Ranchi

The Central Institute of Psychiatry, Kanke, Ranchi celebrated World Brain Day on 22nd July 2022. The sessions were chaired by the Director of the Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi Professor (Dr.) Basudeb Das.

Prof. Pradeep Kumar Bala, Director, Indian Institute of Management, Ranchi was the chief guest at the event.

The event, which lasted all day, was based on the topic “Brain Health for All.” The Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi, took the initiative to blend cultural activities with educational and scientific procedures in keeping with the theme.

Going back in time, it is important to note that the renowned poet Kazi Nazrul Islam received treatment at the Central Institute of Psychiatry in 1952. Dr. R.B. Davis, the institute’s clinical director, oversaw his treatment there. A portion of the program was devoted to honoring Kazi Nazrul Islam and talking about how art and music may help to promote and safeguard mental health.

The program started with a welcome speech by Prof. Basudeb Das. He discussed how music and art might lessen the damaging effects of stress on the human brain. He emphasized that the pandemic period saw an increase in human stress levels, making this the ideal time to rely on music and art to escape the grasp of a difficult lifestyle.

Kolkata-based cultural organization Chhayanat mesmerized the audience with the songs and poems of Kazi Nazrul Islam. The President of Chhayanat (Kolkata), Ms. Somerita Mallik shared valuable insights about Kazi Nazrul Islam.

In the scientific sessions, Dr. Ujjwal Roy and Dr. Umesh S. captured the audience’s attention by putting forth deep scientific knowledge. Dr. Roy apart from being a renowned neurologist from Ranchi is also an acclaimed classical singer. He mesmerized the crowd by singing Kazi Nazrul’s songs.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Avinash Sharma, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, CIP Ranchi. The event was conducted by the Department of Psychology Social Works under Professor Dipanjan Bhattacharjee, Associate Professor and In-charge of the department.
