The premiere of the Bengali film Mahalaya took place in the presence of the cast and crew of the film.

Mahishasur Mardini plays on the morning of Mahalaya. It was written by Bani Kumar, composed by Pankaj Mullick and recited by Birendra Krishna Bhadra. In the year 1975, Mallick and Birendra were replaced with the then superstars of popular Bengali films, Uttam Kumar. The great day arrived and the broadcast finally happened. It was not accepted well by the listeners. The film focuses on this issue.

Prosenjit Chatterjee is the presenter of the film. The cast includes Jisshu U Sengupta as Uttam Kumar, Subhasish Mukherjee as Birendra Krishna Bhadra and Subhomoy Chatterjee as Pankaj Mullick.

Rudranil Ghosh, Kanchan Mullick and Saptarshi Ray also play some major roles in the film.

The film is running at different single screens and multiplexes in the city.
