International Thalassemia Day is celebrated every year on 8th May. All around the world, various programs are being implemented to raise public awareness about this disease.

Serum Thalassemia Prevention Federation, a well-known local volunteer organization, is also contributing to this massive effort. This year’s awareness campaign has a unique strategy. The characters in Satyajit Ray‘s films have begun spreading thalassemia awareness throughout the city. Sharmila Tagore in Devi, Chhabi Biswas in Jalsaghar, Madhabi Mukherjee in Mahanagar, Robi-Tapesh in Gupi Gayen Bagha Bayen, Soumitra in Sonar Kella, Utpal Dutt in Agantuk, and many others.

These characters are talking about thalassemia awareness in the campaign.

The theme of the film and slogans has been made keeping in mind the evergreen dialogues from Ray’s films. May 2 is Satyajit Ray’s 101 birth anniversary and this is a great way to pay tribute to the legendary filmmaker.
