Before the film’s nationwide theatrical premiere on March 6, 2026, the crew behind the highly anticipated folklore thriller Charak: Fair of Faith traveled to Kolkata as part of a lengthy promotional tour. The film’s strong cultural connections to the folklore traditions of eastern India were highlighted by the promotional visit, which generated a great deal of excitement among viewers and the media.

Supported by director Sudipto Sen, who is best known for helming the contentious and much-discussed movie The Kerala Story, the upcoming project has already created a lot of interest after its compelling trailer was released. The film, which was directed by Shieladitya Moulik, digs into the darker realities of blind faith and occult rituals while exploring the eerie folklore surrounding the traditional Charak Festival.

The press conference in Kolkata was graced by Sudipto Sen (Producer), Subrat Dutta (Actor), and Bishakh Jyoti (Music Director).

Sudipto Sen said, “After Durga Puja, one of the most popular festivals in Bengal is Charak. It is popular in other regions in India too. There is a happy, merriment feeling associated with Charak. However, there are many dark practices revolving around this festival. Sitting over a dead body and worshipping, the slaughter of kids, and many such practices are popular. This is a tradition that can be traced back 1000 years. I was determined to showcase this to the people so that this could be stopped. Do you know that seven lakh kids have disappeared in India? What has happened to them?”

He also added that the issue highlighted in the film is not a problem of India alone. It is a global problem. Child sacrifice was happening in many other countries as well.

Sudipto Sen said, “Rather than thinking that this is a propaganda film, one must watch the film first. Even before watching The Kerala Story, people had thought that I was making the film for a particular political party. But when they saw the film, they understood the real intent behind making the film. Charak highlights the superstitions that still exist in society”.

A demonstration broke out in the center of the city while the team was advertising the movie, and protesters blackened the Charak posters. The demonstrators protested the movie’s depiction of the festival’s negative customs, arguing that it misrepresents the celebration’s spirit and displays their cultural tradition in a negative light, harming the community’s feelings.

Subrat Dutta said, “I play Bikash in the film. This was a challenging role. There was a great psychological pressure on me when I was portraying the role. The way the character started in the film till the end was an arc for me. This is the job of actors, and the reception from the screening made me realize that I could communicate well with the audience”.

Kolkata was a significant stop on the promotional circuit because of the film’s close ties to the local spiritual and cultural customs. The team talked about the film’s visual vision and thematic depth while also emphasizing the significance of folklore in forming the narrative.

The cast of the film consists of Anjali Patil, Sahidur Rahaman, Subrat Dutta, Shashi Bhushan, Nalneesh Neel, Shankhadeep, and Shounak Shyamal, each bringing depth and intensity to a narrative that explores the fragile line between devotion and dangerous extremism.

Charak: Fair of Faith is presented by PEN Studios, led by Dr. Jayantilal Gada. The film is produced by Dhaval Jayantilal Gada and Sipping Tea Cinemas in association with Sudipto Sen Productions, with Rajesh Bhatt serving as Associate Producer.

Charak: Fair of Faith is gaining momentum as it approaches its nationwide theatrical debut on March 6, 2026, with the Kolkata leg of promotions creating a lot of talk and curiosity among viewers.
