The 5th edition of the Charles Correa Memorial Lecture was delivered by two eminent architects, Mr. C. Anjalendran from Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Professor K.T Ravindran from New Delhi, India.
The renowned Sri Lankan architect C. Anjalendran is renowned for creating buildings that are a living representation of his unprejudiced and free-thinking, inclinations toward nature, as well as the regional idioms and cultural diaspora. Peers have hailed his transformation into utilitarian architecture with an aesthetic appeal as revolutionary. His work has been displayed all over the world, and he has received numerous honors and recognitions, such as the 2011 Golden Award for Global Contribution to Architecture.
A pillar of the field is Professor KT Ravindran. He is an urban designer who is involved with several national and international institutions in various capacities. He is commonly known as KT among his peers, contemporary designers, students, and admirers in India and beyond. Professor Ravindran has held a number of such honorable positions, including Chairman of the INTACH Architectural Heritage Advisory Committee and Member of the Advisory Board for the United Nations Capital Master Plan, New York.
Charles Correa was ahead of his time, Mr. Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman of the Ambuja Neotia Group, said. His inspiration for City Centre Salt Lake’s planning and design came from the Indian open-space market many years prior. City Centre not only has remained relevant throughout but also sets the bar for a futuristic and practical design for a contemporary mall at a time when architects from all over the world are focusing on this open-space design in the wake of the pandemic in 2020. That is the sign of an architect with vision.
