At the Sarat Smriti Sadan in Kolkata, Chhayanat (Kolkata) and La Casa de los Polglotas observed International Mother Language Day. The occasion was planned to celebrate and encourage multilingualism as well as the linguistic and cultural variety of the world. The value of multilingualism and the different ways it enhances our cultures and civilizations were covered by speakers from both organizations. The event also featured a number of cultural performances, including storytelling, dancing, and traditional Bengali songs.

The event was directed by Somerita Mallik (President, of Chhayanat, Kolkata).

The concept of the event was by Mr. Subhojit Roy (Founder, La Casa de los Políglotas).

Mr.Tarun Kumar Ghatak (Former Professor at Jadavpur University, and translator), Dr. Mrinmoy Pramanick (Professor at the University of Calcutta, In Comparative Literature and Writer), Mr. Antonio Costa Bolufer (Director at Tapaste), Mr. Soumya Kanti Roy (Chief Editor at El Camino – A Trilingual Magazine) were the special guests at the event.

In order to promote linguistic and cultural variety and to increase awareness of the value of mother tongue preservation, International Mother Language Day was established. The occasion was a huge success and showcased Kolkata’s rich history and culture. It was a chance to discover more about how multilingualism can promote cultural understanding and bring people close to one another.
