Chiro Unnato Mamo Shir Organized To Celebrate 100 Years Of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s Poem Bidrohi
To commemorate 100 years of publication of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s iconic poem ‘Bidrohi’, Chhayanat (Kolkata) and Archak from Siliguri joined hands to organize an event titled ‘Chiro Unnato Mamo Shir’.
The program was directed by Somerita Mallik, President of Chhayanat (Kolkata).
Kazi Nazrul Islam penned this immortal poem at his 3/4C Taltala Lane house. The poem was written in the year 1921 in December.
Muzaffar Ahmad reminiscing about that monumental day mentioned that he was the first person to hear this magnificent poem. On 6th January 1922, in the magazine ‘Bijli, Bidrohi was first published. This poem just not only garnered
mass acceptance but was also able to find a place in many newspapers
and magazines at the same time. The poem after 100 years of publication still remains relevant and popular.
The program at Siliguri kicked off with a rendition of the patriotic
songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam by the artists of Chhayanat (Kolkata) – Reena
Ray, Surupa Mallik and Somerita Mallik.
The Bidrohi poem was recited by Siliguri’s celebrated theatre personality Partha Chowdhury. Archak’s child artists presented a dance performance on
the song ‘Momer Putul’.
Dr.Santosh Majumdar also rendered a solo song. The artists from Archak also presented a dance based on Bidrohi poem. Nazrul songs were presented by Siliguri’s Abhiman Ray and his group. Chhayanat Kolkata’s child artist
Aryana Spandan Bhadra captivated the audience through his
recitation of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s poems. Somerita Mallik closed the
event with her rendition of Kazi Nazrul Islam’s songs.
Biswajeet Ray was the anchor of the event.
To bring forth in front of the world, the works of Kazi Nazrul Islam,
this was a special event initiative by Chhayanat (Kolkata).
