Commemorative Stamp On Yash Chopra Out Now
As part of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2024, Rani Mukerji celebrates 50 years of Yash Raj Films and introduces the first-ever Yash Chopra commemorative stamp at the Australian Parliament.
The historic occasion was marked with the first-ever celebration of Indian cinema at the Australian Parliament, which coincided with the 15th anniversary of the Melbourne Indian Film Festival. The program coincided with Rani Mukerji and Karan Johar’s keynote addresses at the Canberra Parliament.
The main event of the evening was not only their keynote speeches but also the introduction of a commemorative Late Yash Chopra stamp in remembrance of his legendary filmography, his enormous contributions to Indian cinema, and his influence in turning Hindi cinema into a worldwide phenomenon.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne has always had close relations with Mr. Chopra, who was also its first Patron. This esteemed occasion was held in advance of the 15th annual Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM).
Distinguished dignitaries, parliament members, and ministers attended the stamp unveiling event, highlighting the influence and cultural significance of Indian cinema on a global scale. Special thanks were expressed for the late Yash Chopra, who was widely regarded as the cinematic equivalent of the god of romance on celluloid. Attending this event was Karan Johar, who recently gave a stirring keynote address before the Australian Parliament.
Speaking at the Australian Parliament House, Rani Mukerji said, “I’m honored to be a part of this historic occasion of the launch of iconic filmmaker Yash Chopra’s commemorative stamp. This is a celebration of the Indian film industry, which has provided countless people with entertainment through the power of cinema, as well as of Yash Chopra and YRF’s rich and influential 50-year heritage of influencing pop culture worldwide. For the past 15 years, the IFFM has been a driving force behind the strengthening of cultural and artistic relations between Australia and India. I take great pride in witnessing the festival continue to flourish each and serve as a conduit for the brightest artistic minds in Australia and India”.
The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, which highlights the great diversity and inventiveness of Indian cinema, is still a shining example of cross-cultural dialogue. The festival this year was likewise a lavish celebration.
