According to Dr. Vimee Bindra, endometriosis has become a major factor in female infertility and is estimated to affect more than 25 million women in India.

One in ten women suffers from the ailment endometriosis. In this syndrome, the tissue that resembles the uterine lining is transplanted at ectopic sites outside the uterine cavity. This tissue can be present in a variety of extra-pelvic regions, including the diaphragm, lungs, peritoneum, bowel, and ureter. This tissue can produce its own hormones, and it can expand and invade nearby tissue, leading to adhesions, discomfort, and sterility.
