Dhwani- An Excellent Celebration Of Indian Classical Music
“Dhwani: The Music of Sound” a two-day cultural spectacle, was launched by Calcutta Girls High School in Kolkata’s famous Town Hall. This effort, which is centered around the ancient Indian Raagas, honors and celebrates the rich history of Indian classical music.
The event was graced by eminent personalities, like Mr. Firhad Hakim, Hon’ble Mayor of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Dilip Mondal, Hon’ble Minister of State for Transport, Government of West Bengal, Bishop Subodh C. Mondal, Chairman, Presiding & Resident Bishop of Bengal Regional Conference and Rev. Kamalaksha Sardar, Vice-Chairman and Pastor of Thoburn Methodist Church.
Indian Raagas represent centuries of cultural development, emotional depth, and spiritual resonance. They are more than just musical works. By incorporating tales of custom, the natural world, and human emotion into complex rhythmic patterns, they capture the essence of India. A sense of pride and respect for our cultural heritage are fostered by events like “Dhwani”, which are essential in ensuring that these treasures are passed on to the next generation.
Highlights of the performances at “Dhwani” were an enthralling opening song, a warm greeting to the dignitaries, an expressive opening dance, and an enthralling dance drama. The performances demonstrated the talent and commitment of children from Standards 3 through 9 and 11. These compositions evoked the timeless beauty of classical music by fusing narration with movement, bringing the subtleties of Indian Raagas to life.
Indian Raagas are a powerful reflection of our cultural identity and the beating heart of our musical legacy. “Dhwani” is a modest attempt to uphold this tradition and teach its principles to the next generation. In addition to fostering artistic ability, Calcutta Girls High School aims to instill in today’s children the value of reestablishing ties to their cultural heritage.
