Kolkata’s love for food and especially fish is the stuff of legends. Fish-Tish, a new takeaway outlet at 203, Sarat Bose Road (next to Marco Polo) – by Soumyajit Majumdar, founder-director of LOK Arts Collective and his family aims to satiate the city’s taste buds with their unique array of delectable dishes. This is Soumyajit’s next foray into entrepreneurial ventures, after the success of his directorial debut in this year’s acclaimed feature film #Homecoming. The outlet opened its doors on 12th August in the presence of celebrities like model Sushmita Roy, actors Sayani Gupta, Pujarini Ghosh, Soham Majumdar, and Debopriyo Mukherjee, creative designer Ekta Bhattacharya, and many more.

The goal of Soumyajit’s endeavor is to reintroduce fish eating in a novel way to the people of Kolkata. The Majumdar family has a close emotional connection to the site. Soumyajit’s late grandpa, Mr. Samir Majumdar, used to advertise records and cassettes from this property. Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, Ali Akhbar Khan, and V Balsara were among the former guests from the golden age. Mr. Samir Majumdar was the chief sound recordist with the top music label at the time. Later, his father Mr. Subhasish Majumdar acquired the property and transformed it into “Cybernet,” one of South Kolkata’s first internet cafés.

With Fish-Tish at Lake Road, the Majumdar family has now launched a new business from this same location.

“The property holds a very personal and nostalgic area for us as there have been many creative entrepreneurial factors linked with this location,” said Soumyajit. “It has served as a testament to the interests of my father, my father’s father, and now, of mine. After directing, writing, and producing #Homecoming, which is now airing and has received positive feedback from audiences all over the world, I wanted to use my love of food as a vehicle to rediscover my roots. So here we are at Lake Road with Fish-Tish” added the owner.

When asked about his plans for Fish-Tish in the future, Soumyajit responded, “If the people of Kolkata like our endeavor, we want to expand Fish-Tish and build 40-50 locations all over the city”.
