The Indian society is essentially a patriarchal society. Women have gained their freedom after much struggle. But are women really free in all aspects? The upcoming Bengali film Doaansh showcases the daily life of a tribal woman and her struggles to face the problems in her life.

Sarathi Sardar aged 55 lives in the Sundarbans with her granddaughter Jhumri. Jhumri’s love interest is Dibakar. He learns the art of gathering honey from his father’s friend Nimai. He comes back after collecting the honey on the first day. But he does not come back the next day. People thought that he is been taken away by the tiger. Jhumri does not believe that. What happens next?

Dibakar and Jhumri, played by Anubhav Kanjilal and Sritama Dey and whose families perished in tiger attacks, are the central characters of this drama, and it centers on their fight and intense love for one another. The movie goes into great depth about how they manage to free themselves from those contractors’ grasp and continue on their journey.

The film will show Anubhav Kanjilal and Sritama Dey in pivotal roles. The look of the cast is very promising.

Apart from these two actors, Sanjita Mukherjee, Kingshuk Ganguly, and others will be seen in pivotal roles in the film.

The film will be directed by Sayan Bandopadhyay. “Contractors in the Sundarbans decide who will fetch honey or get crabs. This illegal rule of the contractors forms the basis of my film” said the director.
