Edgy Medical Thriller Karkat Rogue To Showcase Malpractices of Anti-Cancer Drug Trial
The cast members of the bi-lingual web-series Karkat Rogue went to Sharbari Datta’s boutique Shunyaa to promote their new web-series and also showcase new collection of the designer.
The series is based on Indranil Sanyal’s novel Karkat Kranti. The director of the web-series is Utsav Mukherjee.
The story of the web-series revolves around the underbelly of anti-cancer drug trial on unassuming people and the associated corporate greed which can go to the extent of debasing itself to safeguard their image. The story shows Beas Banerjee, a forensic surgeon who unearths a deadly plot behind the suicides and murders of lymphoma patients. She is initially unsure but as the death count increases, she digs in and unearths facts which shook her belief in the medical system and the malpractices. She finds out that it was a doctor who was conducting the tests on the patients. When the tests go wrong, people die. The people who conduct those tests will go to any extent to cover their ill deeds. They might even kill her to save themselves. She then reaches out to a senior police official named Barun Sarkar. Along with him, they unearth the truth which shocks them.
“The edgy medical thriller will see me in the role of Beas who is a forensic surgeon. After she gets cured from cancer, she joins work. It is then that she unearths the malpractices happening at work. What happens next is what the web-series will unveil” said actress Chitrangada.
The actress also revealed that working in the web-series was a good but tiring experience as the schedule was long. Though it was tiring, the script kept the actors engrossed.
Jayant Kripalani mentioned that he was called at the last moment to join the cast of the web-series. “The script was great and the edgy thriller will keep the audiences hooked” said the actor.
There will be eight episodes of forty minutes each.
The director said “This is a serious series. This is a mystery thriller. Most protagonists in Bengali films and web-series are journalists, doctors or works in advertising agencies. But we have a forensic surgeon here. I and Chitrangada went to the morgue to understand about the nuances of their work. It was like a workshop for us. I wanted to see how the forensic surgeons behaved after going to home from work. It was a great experience shooting the web-series”.
The production house is Fatfish Entertainment.
Rana Basu Thakur plays the role of a Chief of the All India Medical Council A.I.M.C. The story takes a critical turn after the introduction of this character.
Chitrangada Chakraborty, Sudip Sarkar, Indraneil Sengupta, Rajesh Sharma, Jayant Kripalani, Arya Dasgupta, Chandreyee Ghosh, June Malia, Rana Basu Thakur and Priyanka Sarkar will be seen in pivotal roles in the web series.
