West Bengal State Power Engineers’ Association is the only association in the power sector of West Bengal which comprises of engineers as well as members from all government owned power sector organizations like WBSEDCL, WBSETCL, WBPDCL, DPL and WBREDA.

Engineer members of the West Bengal State Power Engineers’ Association gathered at the gate meeting to protest against various injustices done to engineers by the management of the two Government owned companies namely WBSEDCL and WBSETCL on the issue of transfer, promotion and vigilance cases.

There have been rampant violations of rules while transferring engineers to far flung villages for many years. However on the other hand, many engineers stay in Kolkata by gratifying the higher ranked officials.

Junior engineers can purchase their promotion and supersede his seniors by illegal means. The situation has become so grave that only a few engineers can manage to get the three promotions that they should get legally. The rest retire by getting two promotions.

Crooked and corrupt individuals are being let off and no steps are taken against them. At the moment, 20, 000 crore rupees of project work is going on and there is proof of rampant corruption in the company. The vigilance wing is silent on these issues of corruption.

The engineers added that if adequate steps were not taken to tackle these problems, they would continue with their protest against these injustices.
