Stress is a very common thing that most of us experience irrespective of our age. Whether one is a school student, an office worker, or a middle-aged person, stress is present in everybody’s life in a big or small way. This affects our health in ways that many of us cannot even comprehend. Is there a way to handle it?

Dr. Devasis Ghosh and Anindita Guha conducted a study and found that there are certain chemicals in our blood that connect to how we handle stress. The study, “Platelet Serotonin Level: An Essential Role in Human Behavior, Stress Reaction and the Selection of Psychotropic Drugs”, throws light on these chemicals that affect stress levels in different persons.

According to the study, serotonin and dopamine, two blood molecules, cooperate while under stress. This improves our comprehension of stress.

Prior to this study, it was believed that certain blood molecules remained unchanged from birth. They researched and chemically classified groups of stressed-out persons.

They discovered that either an excess or a deficiency of these compounds can result in high levels of stress. More of one molecule, such as serotonin, might result in less of another, such as dopamine, and vice versa.

The principal researcher, Dr. Devasis Ghosh, stated that analyzing these molecules could aid in our comprehension of stress. Doctors can choose therapies by taking both into account.

Anindita Guha highlighted that people do not like to talk about mental issues in India. While going to a doctor for an eye check-up or fever or for even for cancer treatment is normal, people shun away from talking about mental issues. However, with proper awareness, one can take better care of their stress and lead a good life. A simple blood test is enough to determine this issue.
