First Edition of Indian Open Indoor Archery Tournament Organized
The first edition of Indian Open Indoor Archery tournament was announced at a press meet recently.
This event is unique because an archery competition in an indoor environment and will be held for the first time in India. This is a very popular format of archery especially in the western countries. The target is placed at a distance of 18 meters, whereas in outdoor format of archery targets are placed at a distance of 70 meters. Time taken to play in the indoor format is also much lesser than outdoor.
The tournament will witness top class Indian archers competing against one another for the first time in a new format of indoor archery. Eight Olympians will be participating in the inaugural edition of tournament. This format is the future of archery and it is emerging as a much more spectator friendly form. One can call it the 20-20 of archery.
On the first day, i.e. 27th October, there will be a qualification round where each archer will shoot 60 arrows. They will then go onto play the knock out round on Sunday, 28th instant. There will be prize money for the top three archers in 4 categories. The four categories are Recurve Men, Recurve Women, Compound Men and Compound Women.
Win & Win Archery Co. Ltd., South Korea will organize a workshop on ‘bow tuning’ on the sidelines of the tournament. Representatives from World Archery Federation will be present at the event.
The first edition of the Indian Open Indoor Archery tournament will be organized on 27th and 28th October, 2018 at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata by Dola & Rahul Banerjee Sports Foundation (DRBSF).
