First Education Centre For Adivasi Children In Damodarpur
Super Shakti Foundation, the CSR arm of the SAI Group, a leading industrial powerhouse that deals in steel, power, and infrastructure in Eastern India, has formally presented “PROJECT-SHIKSHA PRIMARY EDUCATION CENTRE” – to Damodarpur Purba Adibasi Para, a tribal village located in the district of Paschim Burdwan near Jamuria today. The center is the first-ever education center in the village, constructed by the SAI group with the aim of eradicating illiteracy and spreading the rays of education here.
At a formal function in Damodarpur Purba Adibasi Para, Shri Sudipto Bhattacharya, Director formally unveiled the “PROJECT-SHIKSHA PRIMARY EDUCATION CENTRE” in front of dignitaries, children, and elderly people of the village today.
SAI Group has a dominant presence in Eastern India and it has been working tirelessly to realize its dream of strengthening the future of the nation and building a better world. The cornerstones of a better world can only be placed on the solid foundation of education. But unfortunately for some education is still a luxurious commodity.
The SAI Group’s CSR arm, Supershakti Foundation, is well aware of this. In order to disseminate education to the most remote and undeveloped areas of this country, a vow to end illiteracy has been made. One such remote area in Jamuria that has yet to be illuminated by the brilliant, all-pervasive rays of education is Damodarpur Purba Adibasi Para. There are 40 households living in this isolated village in Paschim Bardhaman, and there are about 250 people overall. Every family is a part of the scheduling tribe. The literacy percentage in the villages is about 26%. Both public and private schools were absent from the area. The absence of schooling in the area and the surrounding poverty had combined to create a vicious environment where only hopelessness could flourish.
The center has two classrooms totaling 900 square feet. All necessary amenities are present in the educational facility. To provide relief from the oppressive heat, ceiling fans are installed in the roomy classrooms. 40 children, ranging in age from 5 to 12, have signed up so far. Two teachers will be directing the youngsters. The Supershakti Foundation will pay for all of the center’s upkeep and operating expenses, including teacher salaries, books, and other incidentals. In addition to the Rs. 23 lakhs already spent, the Supershakti Foundation has pledged to cover all additional costs.
A great initiative indeed!!
