St. Joan’s School in Newtown celebrated its Annual Sports Day, a lively event that highlighted the students’ talent, spirit, and tenacity, marking a significant occasion. It was a memorable day because of the distinguished dignitaries, parents, guardians, and well-wishers who graced the occasion.

The celebration was inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Qin Yong, Deputy Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Kolkata, as the Chief Guest, accompanied by consular representatives from the People’s Republic of China.

The Guests of Honour for the event were Padmashri Prof. Dr. Indira Chakraborty, Public Health Specialist,  Mrs. Krishna Chakraborty, Mayor of Bidhan Nagar Municipal Corporation, and Mr. Tapas Chatterjee, MLA Newtown and Chairman of the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Standing Committee.

The Special Guests at the sports day were Ms. Rahima Bibi Mondal and Mrs. Tulsi Sinha Roy, Members of the Mayor-in-Council (Bidhan Nagar Municipal Corporation), Former Indian football players Mr. Bikash Panji and Mr. Sumit Mukherjee, Rev. Sr. Pascal and Rev. Sr. Georgina from Lavinia House, and Mr. Neville McNamara, former Principal of St. Joseph’s School, Bow Bazar.

A pillar of St. Joan’s School, the Annual Sports Day demonstrates the school’s dedication to a well-rounded education. With more than thirty years of history, the school has consistently produced well-rounded people who thrive in academics, athletics, and other fields.

56 students’ performances, which included yoga, drills, dancing, and other amazing demonstrations of talent and inventiveness, were the event’s highlights. The school’s values of discipline, diligence, and teamwork were reflected in these performances, which highlighted the commitment of both instructors and pupils.

A hearty round of applause was given to the parents, volunteers, and teaching and non-teaching staff who made this amazing event possible.

The mission of St. Joan’s School in Newtown is unchanged: to develop students who thrive in all spheres of life and equip them to be future leaders and world citizens.
