Getting Insurance Covers For Sleep Disorders Is Important

Somnath Maity, Director of the Institute of Sleep Science, Kolkata organized an event to commemorate World Sleep Day 2023.
Also gracing the event were Prof Dr. Arup Das Biswas, and patients Mala Banerjee, and Shibani Saha.
The event highlighted aspects like:
- Hazards associated with ignoring sleep health. This includes life-threatening neurological, radiological, and respiratory issues.
- Advancements in the field of sleep medicine.
- Information about the various challenges faced by the doctors such as getting research funding or insurance covers for the patients.
Somnath Maity said “There are many patients who use CPAP machines for better sleep. However, insurance packages do not cover the cost of these machines. As a result, the patients have to bear a huge burden. However, the government must take some steps so that the insurance companies can incorporate them into their packages. In foreign countries, insurance companies track whether the patients are using the machines regularly. That helps a lot”.
Dr. Biswas highlighted that though sleep apnea cannot be cured, it can be controlled. Even kids can also be impacted by this disease. The first line of surgery for the kids is surgery.
The patients revealed that their sleep health was better due to the regular usage of the CPAP machine.
Sleep health is of paramount importance for everyone and people must take care of their sleep routines to lead a better life.
