GSI Organized 50 Amazing Yoga Sessions In India

The 11th International Day of Yoga 2025 (IDY) was celebrated with great fervor and participation across the country by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), which is part of the Ministry of Mines. GSI emphasized its dedication to holistic wellness, environmental awareness, and geoscientific outreach through yoga in line with this year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”.
GSI actively took part in “Yoga Sangam”, the nationwide mass yoga demonstration organized by the Hon. Prime Minister, as part of the national observance of IDY, one of his flagship initiatives. A major focal point of this year’s festivities, the occasion represented harmony and well-being.
With a guided session led by certified instructors, GSI Director General Shri Asit Saha kicked off the Yoga Day observance at GSI Central Headquarters in Kolkata. Speaking to the audience, Shri Saha highlighted how yoga can improve resilience, clarity, and focus—qualities that are essential for both personal development and scientific success.

In 46 locations throughout India, including state and regional unit offices, training facilities, and operational field camps, GSI hosted 50 yoga sessions as part of the festivities. The outdoor yoga demonstrations at 12 geo-heritage sites, which combined celebration of India’s geological heritage with physical well-being, were a major highlight. GSI officials, local communities, students, and the general public enthusiastically participated in the geo-heritage sites.
These landmark sites included:
- Ancient Mining City of Zawar, Rajasthan
- Rahioli Dinosaur Fossil Park, Gujarat
- Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, Madhya Pradesh
- Nighoj Natural Potholes, Maharashtra
- Dudhinala, Jharkhand
- Gangani River Gorge, West Bengal
- Siwalik Fossil Park, Himachal Pradesh
- Salkhan Fossil Park, Uttar Pradesh
- Arwah-Lumshynna Cave, Meghalaya
- St. Thomas Mount Charnockite, Tamil Nadu
- Peninsular Gneiss, Lalbagh, Karnataka
- Mangampeta Barytes Deposit, Andhra Pradesh
This multi-location project strengthened the connection between heritage, environment, and health by effectively fusing the age-old practice of yoga with GSI’s scientific mission.
