Gourov Dasgupta has made his presence felt in the music industry with his compositions in films like Kaabil, Total Dhamaal, and others. The composer has now delivered one of the most romantic tracks of the year-Hanjugam from the film Bhuj: The Pride of India starring Ajay Devgn. The song has been sung by Jubin Nautiyal. The Kolkata Mail correspondent Priyanka Dutta caught up with Gourov in an exclusive chat before the release of the film Bhuj: The Pride of India. Excerpts..

Hanjugam from Bhuj has been receiving a good response from the audience. How does it feel to get a positive response for your composition?

Gourov Dasgupta- For any composer in the world, when his work is appreciated by the audience, it makes the composer feels humbled and grateful. And I am going through these feelings because the love that the song has been getting is huge.

Tell us about your experience of composing music for this song.

Gourov Dasgupta- When you sit down and write, you make a good song. But a great song comes from the universe. I have always said this. Most of the great music that anyone comes up with has connected with the universe. This is one of those songs. This will be an exceptional song for me in my career. I was sitting on my balcony with my guitar and the music came to me. I sent it immediately to my lyricist to write something with it. By the time she got back, the rest of the song was ready. I got the song programmed and dubbed. And lo! The song was ready.

How did you get the chance for composing music for Bhuj?

Gourov Dasgupta- To be honest, I never expected to compose for such a huge film. I was working on the music for Big Bull when I heard about this film. Ajay sir got to hear Hanjugam and he loved the song. He picked it up immediately and wanted to use it. It was later that I knew that he used it for Bhuj. They had actually shot another song for the sequence. But Ajay sir loved this so much that he again shot the sequence with this song.

There are three other composers working in this film. What is your work equation with them?

Gourov Dasgupta- I was not aware that there were so many composers in the film. I do not know them personally but I would love to know them at some point in time. I am also not a very social person. I know Arko as we are both from Kolkata and he is my neighbor. So I keep on bumping into him from time to time.

What are your thoughts on the film getting released on a digital platform and not in the theatres?

Gourov Dasgupta- I was disheartened when I heard that this will be released digitally. These films are made for the big screens and I love watching my songs on the big screen always. Going digital is the way out now due to the pandemic. This is a great support system. But many people are losing their livelihood due to the pandemic as films are not getting released in theatres.

What are your upcoming projects?

Gourov Dasgupta- A couple of interesting projects with SaReGaMa are in line. A film will Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi is also going to release soon.
