Head To SodaBottleOpenerWala To Gorge On Parsi Cuisine And Bombay Street Food
The quintessential Bombay Irani Cafe and Bar SodaBottleOpenerWala inaugurated its 9th outlet in Kolkata. After making their presence felt in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bangalore, and Hyderabad, Kolkata is the 5th city for the brand to have its footprint.
This is a subsidiary of Olive Bar and Kitchen Pvt. Ltd and is the first franchisee-owned outlet by a fast-growing hospitality group in Kolkata – Gourmet Venture Pvt. Ltd.
Bombay Irani Café’s have been pivotal to the food culture of Bombay for more than a century. With the rising real estate prices, renting their space out became a more viable option for these Café owners than running their establishments themselves This resulted in the diminishing of this culture in recent times.
SodaBottleOpenerWala was launched in 2013 at CyberHub Gurgaon with the purpose of reviving this dying legacy of the Bombay Irani Cafés. It brings forth the bustling, colorful, quirky, and eccentric world of the Irani Cafés with its colonial, old-world, and humorous design.
SodaBottleOpenerWala offers traditional Parsi cuisine along with Bombay food inspired by the streets and the city’s local communities. The menu offers dishes like Berry Pulao, Bohri Kheema Pav, Chicken Baida Roti, and Bhendi Bazaar Sheekh Paratha among a few others. Some of the traditional Parsi favorites on offer are Dhansak, Salli Chicken, Patio, and Patra Ni Macchi. Parsis love their eggs and hence, there is a range of egg dishes on the menu from classic Akuri to par edu collection to bun omelette.
The food joint also has a well-stocked bar with cocktails and beverages. The ingredients as well as the names of signature cocktails are Bombay and Parsi inspired, from the Aam Panna used in a Rustom Bantawala to a beer cocktail made using raspberries.
The beverages section takes you back in time with drinks such as Kala Khatta, Classic Irani Chai. The brand also offers a bakery and dessert menu inspired by the Irani Café bakeries with sumptuous offerings such as mawa cake, caramel custard, bun maska, Khari, and cookies such as nankhatai, shrewsbury biscuits, ginger biscuits, and many more.
