How To Combat Diabetes? Walkathon To Raise Awareness Organized
Every year on November 14, the world observes World Diabetes Day to promote global awareness of diabetes.
Frederick Banting, a well-known scientist, was born on November 14. He and Charles Best discovered insulin, which is crucial in avoiding diabetes. To raise public awareness of diabetes, the World Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organisation designated 14 November as Diabetes Day in 1991. Every year since then, people commemorate this day throughout the world.
The Howrah Town Diabetes Study Society organized the Walkathon to commemorate this day.
Howrah Court Chief Public Advocate Somnath Banerjee, eminent tabla player Mallar Ghosh, Everest conqueror Malaya Mukherjee, Debashish Biswas, Howrah City Police ACP Mritunjay Banerjee, Dr. Sanjay Shah, Dr. Bishmoy Kumar and Rotary Club of Arunoday, Howrah took part in this walkathon that started from a private hospital on Andul Road, Howrah.
The Diabetes Study Society’s Secretary of Social Affairs, Jayati Bhattacharya, stated that in addition to regular exercise, the latest medical therapy for diabetes should be widely disseminated more quickly.
According to Dr. Mridul Bera, India has the highest rate of diabetes patients worldwide. We become more and more reliant on machines as we get more contemporary. There’s less movement now. Our everyday intake of food contains calories that we do not fully utilize. Diabetes is rising as a result.
According to eminent diabetes specialist Dr. Guru Prasad Bhattacharya, roughly 10% of the population in the nation presently has diabetes, and 14% more have the disease. It’s recommended to do yoga, go for regular walks, and stay away from junk food to keep diabetes at bay.
