“I Can Do A Lot More By Playing Negative Roles”- Jammy Banerjee’s Exclusive Interview on Playing Shaukat Ali
Actor Jammy Banerjee after Nupur will be seen in the role of Shaukat Ali in Headquarters Lalbazar. The Kolkata Mail correspondent Priyanka Dutta caught up with the talented actor in an exclusive chat. Excerpts..
How did you bag the role of Shaukat Ali in Headquarters Lalbazar?
Jammy Banerjee- When I first time met with Sayantan Ghosal, I expressed my desire to work with him. After a day I got a call from Surinder Films and I came to know that they are considering me for a negative character Shaukat Ali in their upcoming ZEE5 national Web series “Lalbazar”. But before grabbing the role I had to give the audition first and then the channel finalised the casting. So I gave the audition and fortunately got the casting.
How was the experience of working with experienced actors like Koushik Sen, Subrat Dutta and others?
Jammy Banerjee– It was a fantastic experience working with the powerful actors like them. Mostly I have done my scenes with Dibyendu Bhattacharya and what a fantastic actor he is! He is truly unpredictable during the scenes. So before giving the shot with him I had to prepare myself. And apart from that I had a few scenes with Subrat Dutta and Koushik Sen. I had a wonderful experience working with all of them.
Is this your first web-series? How was the experience?
Jammy Banerjee- No, this is not the first one. Earlier I have done an important character in Aste Ladies with director Abhijit Chowdhury which is streaming currently on Hoichoi. My part is over in that series. But my experience with Lalbazar unit is more remarkable one and I am looking forward to it.
How was Sayantan Ghosal as a director?
Jammy Banerjee- He is a gem. He is a gift to the Tollywood industry and he is very much an actor’s director. I think I am blessed that I got an opportunity to work the director like him at very early stage of my career. In future also I would like to collaborate with him in his upcoming projects.
After Nupur, you again bagged a negative role in this web-series. Is this a conscious decision to do negative roles?
Jammy Banerjee- Yes you can say this was very much conscious. Earlier in Nupur my character was much appreciated and accepted by critics and audience both. So I feel that I can do a lot more in playing negative roles. When I got to know about Shaukat Ali from the makers, I found something exciting about it and I tried my best to portray the same.
Tell us something about the role of Shaukat Ali.
Jammy Banerjee- Well for that you have to watch Lalbazar. I can only say that Shaukat is dangerous and very dark shaded character who is involved in multiple murders and crimes. Saying more than this will destroy the excitement and the insights of the series.
What are your expectations from this web-series?
Jammy Banerjee- This is my first ever national work and I am very much excited about it. I believe Tollywood is coming up with this bilingual violent crime drama series which has been never seen before. It was a roller coaster ride for the entire cast and crew and we gave our 100% into the work. So the expectation is sky high.
What are your upcoming projects?
Jammy Banerjee- Few projects are in line. Among them Raja Chanda’s “Harano Prapti” with Green Touch Entertainment, Sujit Mondal’s “Ishtupid” with Surinder Films and Rick Basu’s “Rani” which is still waiting for its release.
We wish all the best to Jammy Banerjee and we hope that he continues to shine in different roles that he plays in the future.
