Parambrata Chatterjee will be seen in the role of Feluda in ZEE5’s upcoming web series Shabash Feluda. The Kolkata Mail correspondent caught up with the actor in a chat about his experiences of playing this iconic Bengali sleuth. Excerpts..

Tell us about your connection with Feluda?

Parambrata Chatterjee- Like every other Bengali kid, I have grown up reading stories of Feluda. I was even lucky to have sent cards to Satyajit Ray. I met him once at Nandan and I went and asked him whether he was the Ray dadu to whom I sent cards. That was two minutes of fame and I still vividly remember that. These thoughts come to me on Ray’s birthday every year.

Then I got associated with his family and I was cast as Topse. Now, I have become Feluda and it seems like life has come to a full circle. I know many people and many media are telling that the actor who played Topse is now playing Feluda. The point is when Topse was small, he has grown up idolizing his elder brother. So it is natural that when Topse grows up, he will want to become like Feluda.

So many years ago, I was seen in the role of Topse. And now after so many years, I have finally got the chance to portray Feluda. It is a full circle now.

Trolls are continuously going on around this series since the time this series was announced. What is your take on trolls?

Parambrata Chatterjee- I knew from the time I became attached to the project, there will be people who will not like me as Feluda. It happens with every other iconic character. The audience loves them so much that they find it hard to accept someone else in the same role. The actors who have played this role before me have taken it to such a great level, that people willingly or unwillingly will compare my portrayal of Feluda. I think this cannot be avoided. Not everyone will like your work. I am glad that there is a considerable section of people who still liked the trailer and is looking forward to watching the series.

What is your message for the audience?

Parambrata Chatterjee- Do not be resilient. Do not hate the series even before you have watched it. Do not judge it by looking at the trailer alone. We all have worked really hard to make this series. Do watch it. I believe that you will not dislike it. You might even say Shabash Feluda.
