“I Had Rejected Salaam Venky Initially But The Script Won Me Over”-Kajol
“I had initially said no to this film. But Revathi said she wanted to narrate the story. When I heard the script, I loved it immensely and I agreed to do this film. After I became a mother, I stayed away from such projects where the child suffered and likewise. Hence I said no. However, the script won me over” said Kajol.
Kajol, Vishal Jethwa, director Revathi along with producers Suraj Singh and Shraddha Agrawal graced the press conference of the upcoming Bollywood film Salaam Venky In Kolkata.
The film is based on The Last Hurrah by Shrikant Murthy.
Salaam Venky is inspired by a true story and revolves around a boy who had Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This condition leads to muscular dystrophy. The rate at which muscle degeneration happens is more in this kind of muscular dystrophy.
Revathi said “I had always wanted to do films that focus on less talked-about topics. DMD happens to many individuals and they die early. But not many of us know about it. By telling such stories I wanted people to know about these individuals and how they move past the hurdles. Sujata and Venky also move past the hurdles life throw at them”.
When questioned as to why Kajol was doing lesser films, the actress said “I am in a position financially where I can say no to projects that I do not like. I want to do projects that I like. I am a bit lazy unlike the other actresses in the industry. Some might say that I am not focused on my career. But you see I like doing things the way I like and hence I have done less work in recent times”.
Vishal had worked with Rani Mukherji in Mardaani 2. Now he had shared the screen with Kajol. “I had worked with the two ladies of the Mukherji family. It has been a different experience with each of them. They are both stars and yet they are such great human beings” said the actor.
The actor also added that the role of Venky was different from the other roles that he had played till now. Hence it was challenging for him.
Apart from Kajol and Vishal Jethwa, the other cast members include Kamal Sadanah, Rajeev Khandelwal, Aahana Kumra, Rahul Bose, and others in pivotal roles.
The music of the film has been composed by Mithoon.
The film is eyeing for release on 9th December.
